“We focus on identifying and supporting innovative solutions to systemic inequities in Brooklyn.”
— Clara Wu Tsai
OUR HISTORY
Clara Wu Tsai launched the Social Justice Fund in 2020 in Brooklyn, New York, to support economic mobility within communities across the borough. Driven by a $50 million commitment over ten years, the Social Justice Fund invests in programs that address racial gaps in education, health, and wealth.
OUR FOCUS
The Social Justice Fund focuses on identifying and supporting innovative solutions to systemic inequities in Brooklyn.
We utilize Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Nets, and the New York Liberty as vehicles of action and symbols for change, supporting our athletes, employees, and community as we work to create a more equitable borough.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to use our platform to bring people together around a shared commitment to inclusiveness, justice, and equal opportunity. Our goal is to promote a society where people of all backgrounds can acknowledge differences and share common values without fear. We promote a culture of belonging, creating a community as a place for dialogue, respect, and empathy.
THE HOW
We are committed to listening and learning from community members, our players, and our employees as we design and implement initiatives. We fund pilots and programs that are scalable, and which address systemic imbalances in education, health, and wealth.
THE COMMUNITY
We leverage the unique space of Barclays Center – as well as the Nets and Liberty – to create ongoing and consistent community dialogue and convene experts from various disciplines to engage in meaningful conversation. We will utilize the Plaza at Barclays Center to continue to serve as a place for community gatherings, expression, and programming.
OUR VOICE
As NBA and WNBA owners and Governors, we are stewards of important community institutions. Through our access to the Governors of other teams in both leagues, we will work with the NBA and WNBA League Offices and the leadership of NBA and WNBA teams to create opportunities for dialogue and collaboration throughout the leagues.
