YouBelongHere: Black Maternal Health
The Social Justice Fund’s Belong Brooklyn campaign was launched in 2022 to foster important conversation around "belonging" and what it means for our communities here in Brooklyn and around the world. The campaign is anchored in famed artist Tavares Strachan’s “You Belong Here/We Belong Here” art installation - which is currently on display outside the Barclays Center. This year’s campaign will emphasize women's health equity as an essential right and critical to true belonging and equality. In Brooklyn, Black mothers are nine times more likely to die of pregnancy-related complications than their white counterparts due to inequities in maternal healthcare access and quality.
To catalyze support for improved access to maternal health care, the Social Justice Fund will match all donations, up to $25,000, to four organizations dedicated to improving health outcomes for pregnant people of color in Brooklyn. Stay tuned for more information on this year’s campaign, as well as the organizations the Social Justice Fund is supporting.
