Re-Entry and Workforce Readiness Awareness Campaign
The Social Justice Fund’s Belong Brooklyn campaign was created to encourage a sense of belonging among people in our community and around the world. The initiative is anchored by famed artist Tavares Strachan’s “You Belong Here/We Belong Here” art installation - which is currently on display outside the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY. This year’s campaign will emphasize employment equity, via workforce readiness and re-entry programs, as a means of belonging.
Did you know that time in prison reduces one’s subsequent annual earnings by around 50 percent, adding up to an average lifetime loss of around $500,000?
Moreover, a conviction alone reduces lifetime earnings by about $100,000.
To build awareness on this issue, the Social Justice Fund is donating $25,000 to each of the following Brooklyn-based organizations, recognizing their efforts in workforce readiness and re-entry employment services in the borough.
The Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation launched the Social Justice Fund in 2020 in Brooklyn to focus on the inequities and work to support economic mobility within underserved communities across the borough. Driven by a $50 million commitment over ten years, the Social Justice Fund invests in programs that are scalable and confront the root causes of racial gaps in education, health, and wealth.
